HUNGARIAN AMERICAN COALITION LAUNCHES CONGRESSIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Washington, DC - On July 27, 2005

The Congressional Internship program is a public service scholarship established in 2004 by the Board of Directors of the Hungarian American Coalition. The program is made possible by a generous grant from the Charles Simonyi Fund for the Arts and Sciences.

The internship program was established to allow young Hungarian Americans and English-speaking, well-qualified Hungarians from Hungary and the neighboring countries to get acquainted with the workings of the U.S. Congress, to motivate them for public service in their respective places of origin, and provide opportunity to build contacts in the US in their professional areas of expertise.

This program replaces the Coalition’s successful White House internship program, which ran from 1994 to 2002.

The internship will be offered throughout the year, for a period of three months, during the Fall and Winter semesters, as well as during the Summer months. The criteria for acceptance in this program will be established by the Coalition and the host Congressional office. The Coalition will make the final determination on all acceptances.

The expected interns will be college students midway through their studies, with excellent oral and written communications skills in English, and eligible to earn credit for their Washington internship semester.

The Internship Program will enable students to work full-time for one semester in Congressional offices and/or institutions related to the US Congress. Details of the conditions and requirements of the program can be found at the Coalition's website hacusa.org.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Applications should be sent by email to:
